About High Country Lavender

Nestled at 3,000 feet in the Blue Ridge hills of Meadows of Dan, Virginia, High Country Lavender is more than just a lavender field. It’s nearly 140 acres of mountain magic—where lavender fields meet whispering woods, trails wind down to the river, and time slows enough for you to actually catch your breath.

A place with a story

This land has been carefully tended for generations. Nearly 45 years ago, a local farmer sold the property to a man who transformed it into a Christmas tree farm. Many of those trees still stand today, grown tall and a bit wild, giving parts of our acreage a feel that’s almost like stepping out West.

Later, his second wife saw something special here. In 2014, she planted the first rows of lavender—Grosso, Phenomenal, and Royal Velvet (a favorite for culinary treats)—and opened the little shop that still greets visitors. Her dream brought the sweet scent of lavender to these mountains, and we’re so grateful to continue nurturing it.

A new chapter in the making

We’re Wendy and Anthony Basil, and together with our two teenage boys, Brennen and Daniel, we’re pouring our hearts into this place. From restoring trails to tending the lavender, rebuilding old fences, and sprucing up four cozy cabins tucked into the woods—there’s hardly a corner of the property we aren’t working to improve.

High Country Lavender is part of our larger Chasing Rabbits Farm: A thriving regenerative farm, that  restores and enriches the land for future generations. We believe healthy soil, happy pollinators, clean water, and diverse plant life all matter—and we’re committed to making choices that heal, not just harvest.

Our boys are right alongside us, hauling brush, planting, repairing paths, and learning firsthand what it means to care for a piece of land this special. It’s truly a family effort, and we love knowing our hands are shaping something that will welcome others for years to come.

There’s still so much to build and grow here, but we’re dreaming of a place where families can stay in a cabin, explore acres of peaceful woods, sip tea by the shop, or watch the sun set over rows of lavender. We’d love to share it all with you—now and as it continues to bloom.
